A tribute to Arthur C Clarke

General No Comments »

“The greatest tragedy in mankind’s entire history may be the hijacking of morality by religion” – Arthur C Clarke

I fondly remember my trips to British Council during my school days where I used to hunt the Sci-Fi sections. I still remember my first Clarke, it was a hard bound edition of “The hammer of God”. The style of writing and Indian names like Singh, Kali were to leave such a strong impression that I was hanging out a long time to pick up Clarke’s books as and when they were returned to the shelfs. In a way his writings have really influenced me a lot and the way I have now turned out to be. A thing we shared in common was his fascination towards his adopted country, Sri Lanka.

May he rest in peace.

Arthur C Clarke

“Bench”

Ramblings No Comments »

According to Wikipedia, the Bench refers to the buffer of employees who aren’t assigned to any project. This is to ensure that staffing of new projects is fairly easy

I came back from my vacation 2 weeks back and was surprised to find I have been relieved of my previous duties and now I find myself in the bench. We are looking at some new projects coming up and we are going to do it for the first time. I better relax myself to the max before I have to spend real sleepless nights….. Another news for me was that I have to travel to Germany in April for a week for Hannover Messe. So need to prepare all the docs for the visa and other formalities.

This relaxed work day isn’t all that good. The day moves very slow and you get tired of reading IEC’s and books. I have been reading Richard Dawkin’s “River Out of Eden” which enlightens you on evolution. Will try to post a full review after finishing it.
