IT Telepathy…

I do not remember the location or state of mind I was in, when I got this call… This call originated some 2400kms away from my present location and informed me that “My system is not working !!! Mails are not going out from my Outlook. Please check and solve it !!! ” Before I could react, the call came to its end, leaving me open-mouthed.

I am planning to take a short course on IT Telepathy. :(

Tech Jargons

The word “Jargon” according to Oxford means “words or expressions used by a particular group that are difficult for others to understand.”

So what do you do when somebody asks you to tell something in layman terms when that subject can be explained only with jargons ?  Our E-mail system was shifted from one server to another and things didn’t go as expected… We had some SMTP relay issues, SSL authentication problems for POP3 and IMAP, DNS resolving issues with the new server… How to contain all these terms in layman terms ?

All I could manage was “There are some issues with the system and we are trying to solve it… and we are doing our best”…. But people are not satisfied with these terms and they expect you to teach them TCP/IP in 15 mins and that too in layman terms… :)

I guess I should go the way of Scott Adams…

Badminton

The last time I played Badminton was at Kamal’s place during college days. And after nearly 6 years I started to play again a couple of days back after one of my office colleagues invited me to play with his friends in the evening. The reason was to reduce my pot. I met some 6 people whose age varied from 50 plus to 30…. and from a state player to college champion. I was underage and nursery kid compared to them. But somehow they kind of encouraged me and pointed out the areas where I needed to improve. They really do have the patience. So for past one week I have been quite religious in turning up for the game and stay for a long time and come back with muscle pains :)

I can’t remember the last time I played something outdoors. But this certainly is a new experience and I hope to continue…. at least for my pot….
